w8less Hairspray
Ask Susanna
I recently got a tattoo in my bikini area and now my waxing technician said she can’t wax me. It has been about two months since I got it done, is it okay to wax now?
Unfortunately, you will have to wait a good year for the skin to completely heal before waxing the area. In fact, if you wax prematurely you run the risk of removing some of the ink and dull the artwork. If you’re impatient – have your technician wax around the area and then trim close with a professional trimmer. Don’t use a razor as they cause irritation and burn the skin.
I’m an aesthetician and perform facials throughout the day. I want to incorporate waxing to my winter menu and see if my clients respond to the added service. What I need to know is should I wax prior to the facial or after?
Waxing is a perfect service to add to your menu. Before your client gets comfortable for their relaxing facial, waxing should be performed. Cleanse their skin with a mild product like Satin Cleanse. I also recommended that you use a cream-waxing product such as Satin Smooth Ultra Sensitive Zinc Oxide formulated for thin and blemish prone skin or Deluxe Cream Wax formulated for dry-dehydrated skin. After waxing apply Satin Cool Aloe Skin soother, wait a few minutes and begin your facial.
Can waxing increase wrinkles and fine lines?
NO! Waxing cannot increase wrinkles or frown lines – they are caused by aging. When wax is applied it is removed against the hair growth using a fast even stroke. It exfoliates the upper layer of skin, which is beneficial for toning, and firming skin around those areas and in some causes it may even simulate collagen growth.
I feel foolish. I’m in my fifty’s and never had a waxing done. My daughters both get their bikini lines done and they been pressuring me to get it done too. I’ve been shaving for the past 30 years. I just think I’m too old to start.
First of all you’re never too old – beauty begins at 50! Or at least I like to think so. You are half way there because your daughters obviously have a good technician that they trust. Now all you have to do is make the commitment to get it done. Once you’ve tried it you’ll never go back to a razor. Don’t rub on any creams or lotion for about 24 hours and stay out of the sun. Sun can damage the skin after it has just been waxed. Maybe next time you’ll get a Brazilian!
