Ask Susanna
Q: Is it necessary to blow on the wax sitting on a wooden applicator in order to cool it before applying it onto the skin?
A: Your technician should never blow on the wax! This process is unsanitary and considered just as unprofessional as double-dipping. If your technician is doing this, you are within bounds to ask her to stop. She cannot deliver a fully clean and hygienic service if she cancels out other efforts by blowing on the wax. To achieve a comfortable temperature, after heating the wax technicians can simply lower the warmer before beginning the skin application. We recommend using a certified UL appliance such as our Satin Smooth warmers, which provide proper temperature and eliminate hot spots.
Q: I get my eyebrows waxed every time I get my hair cut. I would love to get them done more often, but the salon is far away from my house and not convenient. Is it okay for me to switch to a closer salon for my waxing services? I don’t want to hurt anyone's feelings.
A: It's great that you're loyal to your hairdresser, but it's even more important to be loyal to yourself. This means looking good and feeling great about your appearance. Find another salon spa that can wax your brows, and keep your longtime hairdresser for your touch-ups and haircuts. A good salon professional will understand and be fine with it. You can always prove your loyalty the best way—by recommending your hairdresser to your friends!
Q: Now that summer is here, my boyfriend and I are planning a beach vacation together. He has asked me to get a Brazilian, but I'm not sure whether I want to get one done. What are some benefits of the service?
A: Brazilian Waxing not only provides a fresh, clean feeling, but having skin-to-skin contact can intensify the sensation during intimacy, providing a more pleasurable experience for both of you. Once you've tried this service, I think you and your partner will become fans!
Q: Why is tanning after waxing not recommended?
A: We recommend against both sun and salon tanning for 24 hours after a waxing service to avoid any bumps or white heads that can be caused by heat and perspiration. Sweat is loaded with bacteria; pores can remain open for 6-12 hours after hair has been removed. Also, the top layer gets exfoliated during the wax, leaving skin vulnerable to the sun. The use of a 30+ SPF is highly recommend after any waxing.
Q: What is a Boyzilian Waxing?
A: "Boyzilian" refers to a male Brazilian waxing, which entails removing the hair on the genital area and buttocks. See page 70 to learn more about this service, or log onto our website to find a service provider in your area who is a certified Satin Smooth waxer.
Q: Is it okay for me to get my upper lip and brow area waxed if I'm also getting Botox™ injections in those two spots?
A: It is perfectly safe for you to get upper lip and brow waxing in the area where you’ve had injections. My only recommendation is for you to wait 3-4 days for the liquid to form and adapt to the area before you go back for the wax.
