Point of View
Reality CheckTelevision's many "reality shows" have demonstrated that life brings drama all on its own—no script is necessary. Every decision we make affects our own lives as well as those of the people around us. That places a lot of power into our hands. We are the ones who can make changes and improve our situation.
Fashion and beauty play a big role on reality TV. Shear Genius, Tabatha's Salon Takeover, America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway reveal what goes on behind the scenes, an attractive image helps contestants advance on American Idol and Dancing with the Stars, while entire reality shows like What Not to Wear are devoted to the classic makeover. It never gets old watching someone's hidden beauty come through under the care of professionals. With the right hair, makeup and clothing, every person can shine.
Working stylists know this better than anyone, because they perform dramatic transformations on their clients daily.
At our house, my wife and I experience the always interesting reality of watching our three teenage girls as they become wonderful young women. They have grown up surrounded by the beauty industry that we cover in STYLE SOURCE, and are beautiful to us, both inside and out. Share a snapshot of their story, in the fun, reality-show-inspired photo shoot they did recently in the heart of New York City. It begins on page 30.
Even though you may not be on camera, remember that you're the star, playwright and director of your reality. You can make yourself into the person you want to be—leaving the high drama on the cutting room floor. With help from your stylist and the right professional products and tools you can be sure you look the part.
