When I get my eyebrows waxed, my technician never waxes the top of my brows. I ask, but she always tells me that it’s not good to do the top of the brow. Is that true?
First of all, unless there’s a safety issue, I believe a technician should always honor the client’s request. If you want the top of your brow cleaned and contoured, she should accommodate that preference. Maybe she feels she will not do a good enough job. Waxing above the brow is not difficult to do, but it can be tricky if you’re not sure how to proceed. The technician should take small sections and make sure to stay above the natural arch, never too close to the brow. I remove the hair in two sections, starting at the back and finishing in the front of the brow.

I never needed to wax above my lip before, but now that I’m in my 30s the hair seems to be getting darker and coarser. If I start waxing, will the hair grow even thicker and darker?
You’re lucky that you were able to wait until your 30s to wax, since most people need to start waxing at puberty. There are so many myths about waxing, and you hit one of the most commonly repeated—that the hair will grow back thicker darker. I assure you that it doesn’t happen! In over time, waxing your upper lip will thin out the hair follicle, causing the hair to become less thick and dense.

Do ladies prefer guys who have “unibrows”?
My personal opinion is that a well-groomed person is stylish. When I see a young man or adult with wild brows that are attached at the center, I feel he just hasn’t spent enough time grooming himself. But this is only my opinion.

I’ve read so much conflicting information about Brazilian waxing. Is this service safe to do?
Absolutely. Brazilian waxing is a wonderful service when done by a skilled technician who uses the right waxing technique and premium waxing products such as Satin Smooth. When booking your waxing service, always ask the receptionist if there’s a person who specializes in Brazilian waxing. Make your appointment with that technician, and follow these guidelines:
- If you’re anxious or nervous about the service, take an ibuprofen tablet. It’s aspirin-free and will calm your nerve endings.
- Make sure your hair is trimmed at least down to a quarter-inch before waxing. Ask whether this pre-trim is part of the service.
- Ask what type of wax will be used—a hard wax or soft wax product?
- Ask how long the service will take. A skilled technician will complete the service within 30 minutes.
- After your service, avoid the sun, take cool showers and stay out of the gym for at least 24 hours. This will ensure that all pores are closed and your skin will not become irritated.
- Oh, and enjoy your Brazilian! You’re going to love it!
