I’m a male, and I’d like to get a “boyzilian” waxing but I’m worried about becoming aroused during the service. Is that normal and, if it happens, what do I do? |
It’s definitely normal for a man to become aroused during this type of service, especially when working the genital area. In fact, some technicians prefer the area to be slightly firm in order to ensure a confident hair removal waxing. Some arousal also can diminish any pain or discomfort for you. There’s no need to feel embarrassed. Keep in mind that your technician is accustomed to this type of situation and will handle it very professionally. |
Is it a good idea to wax over scars?
If your scar has fully healed and there is no tenderness in the area, I do recommend waxing, but only around the area and not directly on the scar. Waxing over the scar may cause discomfort and irritation to the skin. Your technician also will apply some cooling gel to relieve any discomfort. |
Why does waxing cause pain?
If waxing is done correctly, pain should be minimal, but the fact is that the bulb of the hair is attached to the sebaceous gland, which lies deep within the pores and is attached to nerve endings. During a waxing service,
the hair is pulled from the gland through the three thin layers of skin—the hyperdermis, the epidermis and the dermis---plus the nerve, so some discomfort is expected. If you are experiencing pain during waxing, ask your
technician for product that can numb the pain. Satin Smooth recommends Res-Q Analgesic Numbing Spray, which can be applied five to seven minutes before the wax to desensitize the skin. If discomfort persists after the waxing, you can apply Res-Q Analgesic Numbing Cream. This product will soothe and cool the skin and keep your skin free from bumps. It’s a must-have for me! |

My boyfriend’s daughter, who’s 16, has asked me to take her to get a Brazilian wax. She doesn’t want her father to know about it. What’s a safe age to start waxing? |
While it is safe for a 16-year-old to get a Brazilian bikini waxing, I don’t think she should be asking you to bring her. She needs consent from a legal guardian. Unless she’ll ask her dad to take her, I recommend waiting
until she’s 18. |
Is it true that drinking coffee or other caffeine beverages will increase the pain of waxing? |
Although it’s not clinically proven specifically regarding waxing, caffeine is known to simulate the senses. Drinking caffeine before a treatment can stir the nerves and increase stimulation. I highly recommend easing off of these liquids before a treatment and sticking to decaf. After the service is completed, feel free to indulge with your favorite flavor. |
I’m taking a two-week vacation and want to get my legs and bikini waxed before I leave. Do you think it will last for the duration of my trip so that I don’t have to pack my razor? |
The beauty of waxing is that it provides a hair-free, care-free world for at least three to four weeks. So the answer is yes! Go get a waxing and, while you’re at the spa, get your brows done so there’s no need to bring tweezers, either. |
