Give Your Best To Your Family

This is the time of year to put family first as we gather with our loved ones to celebrate the holidays and, for most of us, that includes a little time off from work. We relax, but we also cook and clean to make sure our home and “all the fixins” are ready for the activity to come.

Vintage photos may show families in their “Sunday best” to have dinner, but today we’re more often wearing casual clothes around the holiday dinner table. I’m like everyone else—I want to lose the coat and tie and take in a good football game. But it’s also nice to make this time special and show a little appreciation to those family members who enjoy wearing a new outfit or a fresh hair style. Whether it’s from a relative, a friend or a coworker, we all like to hear, “You look really nice today.” With all of the parties, there’s always some reason to put extra effort into your appearance, to make sure you’re smiling and to say a kind word. It’s also the time of year to have fun. If you’re throwing a party or staging a family photo, you’ll find tips in our feature beginning on page 32.

In the salon industry, we love this season because we have a chance to see all of our clients. We sometimes meet their families, too—a client might bring in her teenage daughter for a special look, or the client’s husband will stop by to pick up a spa gift certificate for his wife. It’s our busiest season, for sure, but we try to take a moment to let clients know how much they’re valued. Stylists and salon owners alike look forward to updating their clients with a new cut or color so they look great and feel great at the events they attend.

As the season comes to an end, you may be thinking about goals for 2012. On page 68, you’ll see how Rusk’s Junior Master Designers were inspired to reach their goals and now are inspiring other hair artists. In the light of the recent passing of Steve Jobs, inspiration has been on our minds. Steve told reporters that the Cuisinart food processor inspired his cutting-edge design for the original Mac computer. Cuisinart is a division of our company, and we’re honored by this reference. As we at STYLE SOURCE extend our sympathies to the Jobs family, our holiday message for you is to look for inspiration in every corner of your world—and keep giving your best to yourself, your work and your loved ones.
